1)I/О management: It means coordination and assignment of the gift output and input devices while one or more programs are being executed.
2)processor management: It means assigning processors to different talk which has to be performed by the computer system.
3) Memory management: It means the allocation of secondary Storage areas to the system programs as well as user programs and Data.
4)file system management: os is also responsible for the maintenance of a file system in which the user is allowed to create delete and move files.
5)process management: It means determining and maintaining the order in which jobs are executed in the computer system.
6)Time-Sharing: It means the assignment of system resources both software and hardware to the various users of the system.
7)Security: The security functions protect the user from another and os whole form from all users. Its main function is to make sure that only authorized users get access to the computer and its data and that the users only do things they are authorized to do.
8)Command Interpreter: it reads the commands that a user types in at the terminal interprets them and translated them into a detailed set of instructions that the computer hardware can understand. it varies widely from os to another. Everyone must provide a command interpreter for their operations.
9)Data management: It allows organizing their data into a logical grouping called files. Earlier, only this provided data management containing limited flexibility and usefulness. At present most of the os provides the function.
10) Device management: It allocates a device to a process. It finds the status of the device, Channel, and control units find the answer to a question like which process initiates the I0 operations, and finally frees the device When the process is complete.
